Hail the Emperor

Heya people. I’m back.

In my last post I showed you guys the pictures of Kabuki Miniatures’s Celestial Knight AKA The Emperor of Mankind, from package to built model. Well, guess what, I finished painting it a while ago and personally I am very pleased with how he came out.

The model has a lot of delicate details on the armor, from top to toe. His cape also looks very nice. A lot of work in edge-highlighting and even drybrushing, washing and glazing went into the armor. Upon completion I think I used about 12 steps of painting until I was satisfied with the shade of gold and the blending of the colors and such.

The only adjustment I made to the made was swapping it’s original scenic base with the spare one I had lying around from the Horus model I convertd to Abaddon. In the end it gives a cool look when placing Horus and the Emperor towards eachother, as if in some epic stand-off.

Anyways I hope you guys like how it turned out. I am most pleased..

The Lord of Drakes

Heya people.

It’s been a while since I last posted something. I am very sorry. The last year has seen some major troubles, domestic and personal, so I had little time and motivation at that point to keep this up. But I am back, alive and kicking, and to jump right in, I got something for you.

halfway through this week I finished my next Primarch model. Here’s Vulkan, Lord of Drakes, the Promethean Son, Primarch of the XVIIIth Salamanders Legion.

First things first. THE DETAILS!!!! There are a lot on this Primarch. And as if that wasn’t enough, there had te be extra details on the details. Vulkan has several flame-shaped trims on his gunhand, chest and shoulderguard, which were first painted in several shades of gold, but then there had to be actual flames painted, as if those colors were merging with the gold. After a few attempts, I was happy with the result and used this on the rest of the details as well.

Then there the cloak, which should represent drake scale taken from the Great Drake he had slewn back on Nocturne. For this I started out with a specially mixed dark shade of green, washed and glazed it with washes and green glaze untill I was happy with the base shade, then drybrushed with a lighter green, and fianlly drybrushing only the bigger scaled parts with karak stone, to give it that sense that even the scale is starting to age.

But the base color of his armour was a trick. I didn;t want to go with just one of the basic colors GW supplies, so I had to mix the color from 3 different paints, covered the entire armour with it, then washed and glazed it with several colors of washes and glazes until I was happy with it.

Overall seen, I had a lot of fun painting him. It was a bit of a challenge for me, since I have never painted Salamender before and this model is just packed with details, but I think the result is satisfactory. What do you guys think?

Fresh from the Forge

Heya people.

A while ago, I was talking about starting a Sons of Horus army. Since a week or so, that project has finally started. The first models are already in my possession and I started painting them. When finished I will upload pictures. But for now I have something different to show you.

A Storm Eagle is on it’s way and as I want it to be fully dedicated to the Warmaster’s forces, I’d love nothing more than it to be adorned with the iconography of the XVI Legion. Unfortunately, Forgeworld does not sell Sons Of Horus Land Raider Doors.
A few days ago, I received my Blu Stuff order. It allows me to make molds, so I can reproduce anything I want. So I started working on my Land Raider Doors. And this is what came out. 20140806_050848
To test-fit it, I put it on my Chaos Land Raider and as you can see, it fits pretty well. Just need to get the dose of greenstuff right. But I am very pleased that the mold was doing it’s job.
So in the future, I can fit my own homemade Land Raider doors in any vehicle that requires them to really personalize the army.

I hope you guys like it. Tell me what you think.

Untill next time

Behold the Illuminator

Hey people.

Next up is Fulgrim, The Illuminator, The Phoenician, Liberator of Chemos, Primarch of the Emperor’s  Children Legion.

A few things about him: I just loved painting Fulgrim. The details are stunning, most of them really connecting to his Legion. From the wings on his boots and the one on his left shoulder to the small ornamental details on his armour. The model just looks amazing. The only thing I always somewhat disliked about this model is his facial expression. His mouth just looks like he’s ready to give Ferrus some serious head. I really wanted to fix that, but I was afraid that, by doing so, I would screw it up and ruin the head, So I just let it this way and painted it as best I could.

The other thing I love about the model, which is pretty obvious, is that his base interlocks with Ferrus Manus’ base, showing the epic battle between two of the closest brothers amongst the primarchs during the Istvaan Massacre.

I tried to paint him somewhat neutral, like I did with Horus, so he can be used both as the Loyal and the Traitor Fulgrim, though the fact the model is wielding the Laer blade already suggest he is already on his road to treachery.

Hope you like him as much as I do.

The Gorgon Strikes

Rest? We were not made to rest; we go on, unflinching, unstoppable, unending in our strength. The Emperor did not make us for such mortal concerns as hearth and home, vanity or contemplation; we are his engines of war, his hammers, beating out the fabric of existence into a vessel fit for Mankind to inhabit.

— Ferrus Manus, as quoted in Shadow of the Gorgon by the Remembrancer Czel Atternus
A while ago, I painted up the model of Ferrus Manus, the Gorgon, The Iron Hand, Slayer of the Great Silver Wyrm Asornith.
What a detail!! he is packed with tiny little details referring to his legion like smal cogs and the Iron Hands emblem on his left shoulder, but also that backpack just looks awesome. And he jsut really appears strong in his pose. The little detail that I especially love is his hammer, Forgebreaker. The head of the hammer really gives away the fact that this weapon was made by his most beloved brother Primarch Fulgrim. All the small details and then that eagle on its but. Just great. And I really wanted to make clear why he is the Primarch of the iron hands, painting his hands in a metal colouring up just below his elbows, giving away his past of slaying the Great Silver Wyrm, Asornith, pushing it in a volcano with his bare hands and ultimately inheriting the same metal the Wyrm was covered with.
All in all I had a lot of fun painting Ferrus Manus and I really like how he came out of it. How about you guys?

The Red Angel Cometh

Heresy is like a tree, its roots lie in the darkness whilst its leaves wave in the sun and to those who suspect nought it has an attractive and pleasing appearance. Truly, you can prune away its branches, or even cut the tree to the ground, but it will grow up again ever the stronger and ever more comely. Yet all the while the root grows thick and black, gnawing at the bitter soil, drawing its nourishment from the darkness, and growing even greater and more deeply entrenched.

— Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters
I did Angron a while ago, but the pictures of the last post were not of very good quality, so here he is again, better quality pictures and more, to show every detail on him.

Hail the Warmaster!

“You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you, for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action. Do not seek to change them, but use their particular strengths well. You have much work to do, for there are still many words to liberate, many peoples to rescue. My trust is with you. Hail Horus! Hail the Warmaster!”
—The Emperor of Mankind, during the Triumph of Ullanor

After a 20 hour paint session I finished him. The one and only Horus Lupercal, The Warmaster of Mankind, The first found son, Primarch of the Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves and Arch-Traitor to the Imperium. Been having a lot of fun painting him. The details on Horus are breathtaking, the model itself looks like he could step from the statue any time.
Being one of my favorite Primarchs of all time, I just couldn’t resist buying the model and painting him up to the best of my ability. And it was worth it. The result, I think, is just stunning. Never have I ever put down so much work and brought so much detail to life.
I hope you like how he looks, because to me, he is ready to put the galaxy aflame!!
